Appointment as School Governor
Lancashire County Council have today confirmed my appointment as an LEA Governor at Marsden Heights Community College. Marsden Heights is of course, the merged Mansfield and Edge End schools, as a former “Edge Ender” I am honoured and delighted to have the opportunity to serve the community as a member of the governing body. I’ll soon be attending meetings at the school, and look forward to playing my part in helping shape the future for the school and the crucial role it plays in the education of our young people. Marsden Heights Community College has a very positive and bright future, and will add great value to the lives of many young people in our community.

Highway Repairs Begin in Southfield
Following my reporting of the major road surface defects on Netherfield Road, the junction of Pine Street and Barkerhouse Road, the junction of Rhoda Street and Earl Street and the speed hump at the junction of Roberts Street and Netherfield Road, I am very pleased to note that Lancashire County Council Highways have visited the sites and filled the holes. I have visited these sites again, along with others, and taken more photographs of more road problems, which will be reported to the Highways Division during the next week. These improve our local infrastructure and environment, and help to improve the quality of life for our community.

Road Surfaces To Be Scheduled For Repair
Following my reporting of a number of serious defects in the streets in Southfield, Lancashire County Council’s Highways Division have promised to have an inspector visit each site and assess them for repair. Once this has been done, works will be scheduled to rectify these problems and thus improve our local infrastructure. I am still on the lookout for more problems like these, and pledge to work for their resolution as soon as possible.

Southfield’s Roads Receiving Attention
Over the past few months I have noticed a good number of seriously damaged road surfaces throughout the ward. I have taken action to resolve these by reporting the four most badly-damaged sections of our streets to Lancashire County Council’s Highways divison for repair. These particular problem areas I have requested repair are on Netherfield Road, close to the flats on Newfield Drive, Pine Street, at the junction with Barkerhouse Road, the speed hump at the junction of Roberts Street and Netherfield Road and, one of the worst, Rhoda Street at the junction of Earl Street.
Another area of particular concern is the ongoing saga of the traffic calming measures installed in the mid 1990’s in half of Southfield Ward. These are constructed from block paving, and have certainly seen better days, with a lot of the blocks now being loose and sticking up at all angles. I am continuing to monitor the condition of these, and will report them to the Highways division as being hazardous to public safety.
