Save Our Post Office
Royal Mail have announced the latest round of Post Office branch closures, and this has a direct impact on the citizens of Southfield and our community as a whole. The devastating news for Southfielders is that our one remaining local Post Office in Barkerhouse Road is to close as part of Royal Mail’s so-called reshaping programme. Over the last seventeen years, Southfield has lost two Post Office branches, the first was Walverden Post Office on Southfield Street, the second was the closure of St. John’s Post Office two years ago. The proposed closure of Barkerhouse Road Post Office will have a serious impact on Southfield, because no-one has taken the time to consider the needs of our senior citizens and other vulnerable people in our community. This thoughtless and ill concieved scheme will leave around 3,500 people without local access to Post Office services, if Royal Mail gets its way, the only access we will have to the Post Office is going to be either a walk, drive or bus journey into the town centre. Pendle Conservatives have led a vigorous campaign against Post Office branch closures, and we are thoroughly disgusted that Royal Mail has chosen to close another six branch offices in Pendle. If you have received a copy of the petition to save Nelson’s Post Office branches, please would you kindly take a few moments of your time to complete it and return it to either myself at 52 Bath Street, or the Conservative Party office at 9 Cross Street. This is an issue I believe goes beyond party politics, as it has a hugely detrimental impact upon all of our citizens and our entire community. It doesn’t matter if you are a Conservative supporter or not, please take part and sign the petition, make your voice heard and above all let’s show Royal Mail they’re not going to get away with taking one of our vital local services from us.
