Nasty Tactics Come To Southfield
Pendle’s ruling Lib Dems have most regrettably chosen to adopt the nastiest tactics of all in the final hours before tomorrow’s elections. I would appeal to each and every voter to ignore the vicious and desperate tactics the ruling elite are using to frighten voters, please don’t be swayed by their bullying and negative messages. How you use your vote is entirely up to you, and please vote the way you intend to, not as the Lib Dems tell you to. What has become very apparent in the last 48 hours is that the ruling elite have begun to use the nastiest tactics we have yet seen in local elections in Pendle, with completely unneccessary and unwarranted personal attacks being made on opposition candidates and other deeply unpleasant tactics being utilised in an attempt to scare the living daylights out of both opponents and voters alike. What does this tell the citizens of both Southfield and Pendle about the Lib Dem leadership? I believe this tells people that those currently in charge are very frightened indeed, and will stoop to the lowest level possible in order to cling to power. Please, please, please don’t be influenced by this negativity, please vote for those who have provided positive visions and positive policies throughout this campaign. If you want to vote to change things here, please do not hesitate and please do not allow yourself to be browbeaten by the negativity and “ya boo” attitude of the Lib Dems.

Barkerhouse Road Post Office Closes TODAY
Our local Post Office on Barkerhouse Road closes early this afternoon as a direct result of Labour Government policy. Pendle Conservatives ran a full scale campaign to save our local Post Offices and collected at least 4,000 signatures, we were the only party who took to the streets and took direct and positive action to oppose what the Labour Government are doing to remove services from the heart of our community. I am extremely disappointed that the government would not see sense and retain this vital local service for our community in Southfield, now local people will have to travel into Nelson town centre to visit the Post Office. This is a truly disgraceful situation, and one which both the government and the Labour Party as a whole should be thororoughly ashamed of. All the government have succeeded in doing yet again is singling out the most vulnerable people in society and taking an important local service away from them. Fellow Southfielders should think very carefully before they vote tomorrow as to whether they want to vote for the party that has taken away their local Post Office and taxed them to the hilt, or the one which has worked and campaigned hard to actively oppose government cuts and tax rises. A vote for Labour is no solution to Southfield’s problems, a vote for change and the Conservatives is the only way forward for our area.

Please Use Your Vote Wisely This Year
Southfield residents have a distinct choice this year, a vote for real, positive and lasting change for our community and the borough by supporting the positive message from Pendle Conservatives or the same tired old policies and ideology from the other parties.
It was Pendle Conservatives who actively fought the closure of Barkerhouse Road Post Office, the ruling elite merely talked about it and took no direct action. We took to the streets and distributed the petition many local residents very kindly took the time to complete. It is Pendle Conservatives who are offering the lowest increases in Council Tax than any other party. It is Pendle Conservatives who will fight to bring back community spirit and civic pride to our area and the borough as a whole. It is Pendle Conservatives who will offer people a real voice in what they want to see in Nelson and the borough as a whole.
Please use your vote wisely this year and vote Conservative to ensure that Southfield and Pendle have a secure, bright and positive future.

Lib Dem Hysteria Hits Southfield
With only a few days left until this year’s local elections, it is very interesting that the the Lib Dems have resorted to their usual and regrettable tactic of stirring up hysteria in Southfield about the Conservatives having no chance here. I for one believe that the ONLY way of saying enough is enough to Pendle’s current ruling elite and their professional politicians is to vote for REAL change this year. The Conservatives offer a progressive, cost effective and positive programme for both Southfield and Pendle as a whole, we believe in putting local people first and listening to their view and concerns. This is quite unlike what we have seen from the Lib Dems whilst they have held power in Pendle, all we have seen over the past few years is the ruling elite expanding their band of professional politicians at the expense of you, the hard working and hard-pressed local taxpayer. The Conservative candidates in this year’s elections, myself included, are ordinary working people who hold down respectable full-time jobs and seek nothing but to represent the communities we live in and were brought up in. We are not full time politicians, all we seek is to put back into our local community what that community has helped give us. Conservatives instictively and intrinsically understand the needs of local business and our communities, we know how hard things have become under Lib Dem rule with the 10% rise in Council Tax over the last two years. This is a very hard burden for working people to bear, and there is no apparent return being offered for our investment in Pendle. Please don’t believe the hysterical rantings of the ruling elite and vote for real and positive change for both Southfield and Pendle on Thursday by voting for the REAL alternative, the Conservatives.

Does Pendle Council Think It’s BMW?
The fanciful claims being made by the ruling Lib Dems related to certain new developments in Nelson during the course of this local election campaign have drawn me to the conclusion that they think Pendle Council’s like German prestige carmaker BMW. It is widely known in the motor industry that BMW use the highly successful technique of ”halo marketing” to sell cars, essentially, the most expensive, refined and technologically advanced 7-series models cast a halo over the entire model range, thus allowing the company to sell all of its models to their full potential. Pendle’s ruling elite would appear to believe that they have similar products in both the newly completed No 1 Market Street and the new Arts and Entertainment centre which is currently under construction. I find it incredible to understand that they have incorporated yet more retail space into No 1 Market Street when we already have so many empty shops in Nelson. We need to fill the shops we already have, not build more of them to lie empty and contribute nothing to the local economy. Yes, I am in favour of redeveloping and regenerating Nelson town centre, but where are the retail businesses that are going to encourage people to come into the town and make it the thriving hub it once was? As one prominent local retailer pointed out recently, you have to go out of town to buy a gentleman’s suit or any item you’d buy from a men’s outfitters. What is obvious is that the Lib Dems believe that their nice newbuilds will cast a halo over the town and stimulate investment, I for one remain to be convinced by the strategy they’ve adopted. What we need is a new approach, one which encourages local businesses to invest, and encourages local entrepreneurs to set up the specialist retailing we so vitally need in order to put Nelson back on the map as a shopping and business centre. I believe the only way of achieving this is for a change in administration for Pendle Council, and a change of emphasis. We need an administration which will encourage local both local businesspeople and those from outside who wish to invest in town centre retailing. Nelson needs a new political voice, one which will put the town and its people first, and one which is vastly different to what we’ve experienced in the town over the last 10-15 years. This is achievable with the help of Nelson’s residents, and I would strongly encourage placing your vote for the Conservatives on 1st May to kick start the sort of regeneration we so badly need in our town.
